Infinite contrast, absolute black, and wide viewing angles

Each of this OLED TV's 8.3 million pixels — actually every sub-pixel — can switch off completely, producing absolute black. So far, OLED is the only screen technology that can pull off this difficult feat, and it's why OLED TVs can deliver such remarkable contrast and black levels. The C1 uses LG's Alpha 9 Gen 4 AI Processor 4K to improve picture quality with deep-learning algorithms. This advanced chipset instantly analyzes content to enhance the brightness and detail in important parts of the image — like faces. At the same time, the new scene detection feature can recognize and improve the look of different background scenes for a sharper overall picture.

A TV's ability to produce deep, dark blacks is extremely important to picture quality. OLED TVs, like this C1, have pixels that can turn completely off to produce absolute black. This creates a contrast ratio that is essentially infinite, resulting in richer colors and a more lifelike image.

This will be especially striking on High Dynamic Range content. The C1 series supports the HDR10 format, which is mandatory for streamed 4K material and 4K Blu-ray movies. It also handles the more sophisticated Dolby Vision® format, which adjusts brightness and color levels in response to the video signal on a scene-by-scene basis. And LG's Dolby Vision IQ feature automatically adjusts picture settings based on your room's lighting and the content you're watching.

The OLED65C9PUA supports the HDR10 format, which is mandatory for streamed 4K material and 4K Blu-ray movies. It also handles the more sophisticated Dolby Vision® format, which is a dynamic system that is able to adjust brightness and color levels in response to the video signal on a scene-by-scene basis. LG's Active HDR circuitry analyzes and optimizes HDR10 content scene by scene, bringing it closer to what Dolby Vision achieves.
